I was fascinated by the sound of a well-trained voice
when complemented by an articulated reasoning for artistic decisions,
an instrument in and of itself, separate from all of the singer-stereotypes that are so distasteful,
especially from a fellow-Kansan.
I thought this was such a wonderfully concise description of the preparation and thought-process.
"When the phone rang and it was one of the world’s greatest mezzo-sopranos saying she was in town and up for filming a piece with us, we obviously jumped at the chance, especially as it was Joyce DiDonato. She's regarded as one of the best opera singers in the world and in this short video you can see why.
She joins pianist Iain Burnside at London's Wigmore Hall to sing through 'Tanti affetti in tal momento', an aria from Rossini's opera La donna del lago, and a piece she'll be performing at the Last Night of the BBC Proms.
After watching this film, not only will you gain a deeper understanding of the music, but you'll also hear Joyce's astonishing vocal agility and how she brings her unique flair and personality to her interpretation. If you weren't an opera fan before, after watching this we're sure you'll change your mind."
