the future and the past

Today is the last day of a momentous month that I had eagerly anticipated for 9 months. And I am confronted by the enormous responsibility and potential of a future in this squirmy little butterfly that has now been entrusted to me for a little while.

I have been working on a massive project about climate change, thinking about what kind of future we are leaving for the next few generations.

This quote from Murakami made me think twice about the confluence of the past with the very real present of being a new parent and the imagined future of climate change.

"Ice contains no future, just the past, sealed away. As if they're alive, everything in the world is sealed up inside, clear and distinct."

-Haruki Murakami
