rocks that come alive

Based on the natural shapes of each rocks that she comes across, Akie finds her inspiration and decides on which animal she will turn the rock into. She finds that each rock has its own distinct features and she loved collecting them since she was a child.

As a self-taught artist, Akie started painting stones in 2011 while she was walking along a river bank. She encountered a particular pebble that looked like a rabbit.

She finds that, “Stones have their own intentions, and I consider my encounters with them as cues to go ahead and paint what I see on them.”
