alertness is the hidden discipline of familiarity

David Whyte has been a favorite of mine for a while. I discovered this poem of his last year as I was traveling on a train on my own in Europe (one of my favorite moments of pause) thanks to wonderful Krista Tippet. And it has taken on a new meaning especially after the pandemic year.

Here's to looking for more alertness this year.

“You must learn one thing. The world was made to be free in. Give up all the other worlds except the one in which you belong.”
― David Whyte
