pandemic reflections

Yet another perspective on our absurd
and bizarre current time

A Tale of Two Maps
Posting updated Covid-19 statistics each day during a pandemic, when every day bleeds into the next and each day feels the same as the day before, can lead to a kind of complacency - when ALARM about the statistics should be the appropriate response. This morning when taking screen shots of today's NYTimes Covid-19 charts I inadvertantly caught the date 'October 17' on the case count chart. I went ahead and posted my update without retaking that screen shot - BUT it stuck in my head - that on October 17th there had been 52,761 new cases and yesterday there were 202,268 new cases. Now one might say that 202,268 cases on Dec. 6th is not much greater than our current 7-day average of 201,756. BUT it's 4 time greater than where we were at in the middle of October. ALARM is the appropriate response people. We should be running around with our HAIR ON FIRE. Stay at home if and when you can people! And mask the heck up when you go out!

And another comparison between May and December:

260 vs. 286,985 deaths,
a number that can only get worse.
Come on, America!!!
