advice for young musicians... future fridays

I have been binging on Jessye Norman recordings as she is being celebrated in the wake of her death. This interview resonates with me so much, as I struggle with this work/life balance daily: learning to love to practice (applicable to not just musicians).

It reminds me of Jane Kenyon's advice to aspiring writers:
"Be a good steward of your gifts. Protect your time. Feed your inner life. Avoid too much noise. Read good books, have good sentences in your ears. Be by yourself as often as you can. Walk. Take the phone off the hook. Work regular hours."
