Some days feel like I am trying to land on this kind of runway, and barely missing a catastrophe.
But the view from above makes it all totally worth it.

Flying into Sitka on a clear day can be exhilarating or terrifying, depending on how many times you've done it. The runway extends across a number of small islands and rock outcroppings and looks like a driveway from 20,000 feet up. While landing, if you're in a middle or aisle seat, it looks like there's nothing but water outside the window. When they were testing jet landings there about fifty years ago, they were able to stop in about 1/3rd of the runway using full reverse thrust. So fear not and come to see the most beautiful city in Alaska.
