“Forget the d*mned motor car and build cities for lovers and friends.” – Lewis Mumford
"The individual is not king--most people are very nice, interested in small things, mild and moderate. If we could more regularly generate communal moments, we wouldn't have to be so guarded, closed-off, and suspicious. We have allowed our worldview to be kidnapped by the media. But most people are nice. We can trust in community. There is a huge part of us that wants to live more collectively. Collective pride takes the burden of self-regard off the individual ego. We can belong to something better and sometimes greater than we are."
