I must confess: I have a problem with food.
A serious problem.
I absolutely love to eat. Period.
And it is not just restricted to eating.
This year,  I have discovered a love of cooking like none other.

Besides obsessing about my own physical image like almost every other woman I know,
trying to figure out how I can be more conscious about what I put in my mouth,
I have found that I love cooking spontaneously;
creating concoctions out of distant memories of tastes and whatever I can scrounge up in my pantry;
that I receive a deep sense of satisfaction from chopping and dicing crisp, healthy vegetables;
that I much prefer improvising in my recipes, and get antsy at the restriction of exact measurements;
that I am on a kick for real food which would make Michael Pollan and his food rules proud;
that I am tickled pink that I can participate in such a rich tradition
from my grandma, my mom and now my sisters;
that experiencing the process of staying in the kitchen all day is on a par with good chamber music;
that one of my more dominant love language for my friends and loved ones is through food.
The kitchen is one of the few places where I have begun to feel free.

One of my absolute favorite blogs is Deb's beautiful and honest Smitten Kitchen.
I was thrilled to have recently re-discovered Luisa's appetizing Wednesday's Chef.
It helps that both have beautiful pictures of food I could bathe in,
both have new(ish) children (a topic near and dear to my heart),
both are working on publishing their own cookbooks,
both have a no-nonsense, more simple approach to their kitchens with a minimum of space and tools,
and both have a wonderful way with words, describing their love of wholesome, real food.

So, my dear friends,
I hope I can invite you to a feast in my tiny kitchen,
whether vegetarian, gluten-free or allergy conscious,
that I can savor this wonderful convergence of nourishment, love and connection with you,
sooner hopefully rather than later.

May you feast on something wonderful today,
whether it is the perfectly ripe summer peach,
the summery aroma of mint,
a cool glass of wine,
or the perfect enjoyment of a loved one no matter how far away they may be.

Schönen Sontag!
