Wonderful day dreaming...
“The one week holiday you’ve always dreamed of.”
“The one week holiday you’ve always dreamed of.”
The concept is simple;
a beautiful home filled with beautiful things,
available for rent by the week.
About an hour and a half drive (or 2hr train ride) out of Tokyo are the Nowhere Resorts, 3 fully-furnished, aesthetically pleasing by-the-week rental homes located along the sea of the Izu Peninsula. From traditional Japanese to modern minimalist, the styles range drastically and are guaranteed to be compatible with any taste. They were designed by Yasutaka Yoshimura, an architect, and husband, of Michiyo Yoshimura, the woman who started it all. The idea was to create an environment that is comfortable enough that time moves as it was intended (not too fast and not too slow); where you can forget about all the hassles of a vacation and simply enjoy the moment. After all, zen masters always say that you cannot see your reflection in running water, only still water.
Nowhere but Sajima is a 3-floor private residence that opened in September of 2009 and marked the completion of all 3 resorts. It is the most northerly located of the 3, has a sleek, minimalist design and is just steps from the beach. And while the resorts are meant to keep you from over-planning, no one expects you to spend your entire vacation on the sand. There are also hiking trails, rivers, kayaking and several other activities.
Indulge in the serenity of Japanese design at Nowhere But Hayama, a traditional-styled Japanese residence. It has everything from sloping tiled roofs to tatami mat floors and a pristine garden. It’s actually well-known that the Japanese emperor often made trips to the town of Hayama to enjoy their luscious hiking trails and nature walks. Another popular activity here is a trip to the local market where you can pick up fresh seafood and take it back home for a barbeque.
The most affordable of the 3 choices is Nowhere but Zushi, where you don’t get a private residence all to yourself, but you do get a private condo. But then again, it’s only for 2 people (instead of 4) so that cancels out some of the savings. But it is the closest to Tokyo (and probably the easiest to get to). The condo is 3 minutes from the water and with all the same wildlife, it’s certainly an attractive package!
